Austin Stereo Service

I had a very disappointing experience with Austin Stereo. In January 2025 I purchased a receiver and a turntable. Both had issues and were returned immediately to be fixed. After two weeks of silence, I phoned them up and asked for a reason for the delay. After all, I had just purchased nearly $1900 worth of equipment. I was told that my equipment was put in the queue to be looked at, and that it would be two weeks for the repairs to be completed. When I mentioned that two weeks had already gone by, and that I had just purchased the receiver and turntable, I was placed at the top of the list with an apology for the misunderstanding. Once I picked up the equipment, I got it home to find that the receiver had been repaired properly (it was just an LED light.) The turntable, however, worked for a few days (only played about 6 records on it), then it failed. It would power up, but the platter would not turn. Same problem as the first time. Back in for repair and another few weeks (I had to call at about week 3 or 4 again.) They said it was fixed and that the problem was "an op-amp," and I immediately suspected something was wrong because this turntable HAS NO OP-AMPS in it. Got it

Fabulous. Took my unit through the mail. A marantz 2270 that was my baby. Rebuilt with new caps and whatever other magic they know how to do. I believe added another 50 years to her. Professional. Courteous. Couldn’t recommend more.

I had bad hum with my set up. Ryan hooked me up with knowledge. I thought I had the perfect audiophile set up and he showed me how my system sucked. Bought some equipment from him and no more hum and can listen as loud as I wish. **Update** I saw a McIntosh C504 on their shelf and went back today to return the Hardon Karmon and I’m blown away at the sound quality.

Dope stereo service provider! Classic vintage audiophile here, leave the digital in the closet. These guys are pros and really know their craft. I went in to see about simply having my vintage Sansui 5000A serviced. It sounds like dirty pots and one of my speaker configuration selectors isn't working. They explained they don't repair equipment per issue as is the normal process, they completely rebulild your unit from top to bottom! That's a great concept, and it would definitely minimize issues for another 20 years or so. It may be somewhat cost prohibitive to some, my rebuild wil be appx $1200. My initial though was a couple hundred. It really just depends on your level of committment to the classic. I consider myself a conisuer of vynil and enjoy the hunt of collecting. I may just trade my Sansui 5000A for their rebuild.
